Why people go

Ubud is Bali's cultural and wellness centre, known for the Tegalalang rice terraces just north of town, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, and Tirta Empul's holy spring where visitors bathe in ritual purification. The subak traditional irrigation system tied to these terraces has UNESCO recognition as part of Bali's cultural landscape.

Uluwatu Temple, on the island's southern tip, sits on a cliff 70 metres above the sea and dates to around the 11th century; sunset visits often combine with a Kecak fire dance performance. Off Bali's southeast coast, Nusa Penida is reached by fast boat and known for dramatic cliff formations like Kelingking Beach and manta ray snorkelling.

Indian citizens can get a Visa on Arrival or e-VOA for Indonesia, and since 2024 all international visitors must also pay a one-time Bali Tourist Levy, separate from the visa fee.
