Why people go
Kuala Lumpur, anchored by the Petronas Twin Towers, is the usual starting point, with Langkawi (beaches and nature), Penang (culture and food, centred on George Town), Genting Highlands (hill-station entertainment and casinos) and Malacca (colonial-era heritage) as the other staples of a first Malaysia trip.

As of this research (September 2026), the Government of Malaysia has extended visa-free entry for Indian tourists through 31 December 2026, allowing stays of up to 30 days for tourism only — business, work and study still require a visa. Every visa-free entrant, and every visitor generally, must submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days before arrival, and should carry a passport valid at least six months, a confirmed return ticket and a hotel booking. Travellers who do not qualify for visa-free entry, or need a non-tourism visa, can apply for a Malaysian e-visa online.
